Carpenter Helper

  

About the Role:
The Carpenter Helper assists carpenters and other skilled tradespersons in the construction, renovation, repair, and maintenance of residential and commercial building projects. The successful candidate performs a variety of physical labour tasks, prepares and maintains worksites, handles construction materials, operates basic tools and equipment, and ensures work areas remain clean, safe, and organized. 


Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to designated work areas.
  • Assist carpenters with framing, formwork, finishing, renovations, and general construction activities.
  • Measure, carry, position, and hold building materials during installation.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding, ramps, barricades, and temporary work platforms as required.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and prepare worksites to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Assist in demolition work using hand tools while sorting and organizing reusable materials.
  • Level ground and prepare work areas using rakes, shovels, and other manual tools.
  • Assist with material handling and securing loads during construction activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies and provincial occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other general labour duties and assist skilled tradespersons as directed by the Lead Carpenters.
     

Skills & Experience:

 

  • Strong attention to safety.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Good physical stamina and manual dexterity.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
     

Requirements:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is an asset.
  • One year of previous construction labour experience is an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence is considered an asset.
  • Ability to legally work in Canada.


 Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
 

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work at heights.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Residential and commercial construction sites.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, construction equipment, and changing site conditions.
  • Use of personal protective equipment including hard hat, safety boots, eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing.
